What are the requirements to study in Cyprus?
Qualifications
You’ll probably need a high school education or equivalent to apply as an undergraduate in Cyprus. There may also be specific entry requirements for each university or program, so check what these are before you apply. The majority of programs in Cyprus are taught in Turkish, or Greek, but an increasing number of universities offer English as the language of instruction. Before enrollment universities require proof of competency, but students without adequate English levels may be offered one month’s intensive language tuition.
English language tests
If you want to study one of the growing number of programs taught in English, you may need to prove your English language proficiency when you apply. Check with the university when you apply to find out whether you need to have completed a TOEFL or IELTS certification, and what score you need to have.
Students from outside the EU require a visa to study in Cyprus and these will only be given to full-time students with at least 12 credits per semester.
Visa applications should be made to the Cypriot embassy in your home country two or three months before the program starts. You’ll also need to attend a visa interview where you’ll need to present documentation including evidence of a medical check-up and evidence of sufficient finances to support yourself during your studies.
Non-EU students must also register with the District Police Alien Branch within seven days of arrival in Cyprus.
